Le Rize is a cultural centre, founded and maintained by the city of Villeurbanne (located within the Greater Lyon conurbation, in France). Research facilities on site are host to resident junior researchers (postgraduate and PhD levels), engaging research topics that align with the institution’s scientific policy. Le Rize is a space for scientific endeavour and publication in the fields of the humanities and social sciences, and on a range of subjects including: the city of Villeurbanne and the Lyon district; immigration in the 20th century; working class culture and memories.
For such scientific research projects, Le Rize collaborates both with independent researchers and with university laboratories. Public promotion of research findings usually takes the form of exhibitions or conference series aimed at a wide audience. This research notebook is thus intended to broadcast and raise awareness of the research undertaken at Le Rize, whilst creating a platform of exchange between researchers and a non-specialist audience, and help build bridges between the academic world and wider society.
